秦楓：是這樣的，我在中國學的是英國英語，而且學得不好，特别是發音，差不多就是”中國英語”。
大偉：你的英語很好聽啊，我已經越來越習慣你的發音了。
秦楓：我的口音太重了。我要跟你一樣，説一口地道的美國英語。
大偉：那你應該跟電視節目的主持人學。我的英語也有口音，既有法語口音，又有意大利語口音。
秦楓：怎麽會這樣呢？
大偉：這不奇怪。我爺爺是意大利人，我媽媽是魁北克人，我剛到美國三年。
秦楓：這可真有意思！
大偉：有意思的事兒多着呢。聽説你想移民？
秦楓：是啊，我已經提出了申請，可是不知道移民局甚麽時候能批准。
大偉：應該很快吧。
秦楓：所以我想早點兒學會標準的美國英語，越早越好。
大偉：連我這個美國人説的都不是標準的美國英語，你為甚麽一定要説標準的美國英語呢？我覺得你説的話别人能聽懂就行了。
秦楓：可是……
大偉：别”可是”了。你的英語又流利又好聽，你别跟自己過不去了。

Dawei: There are far more interesting things. I heard that you want to immigrate?
Qin Feng: Yes, I have already submitted the application, but I don’t know when it will get approved by the Immigration Bureau.
Dawei: It should be fairly soon.
Qin Feng: That’s why I wanted to acquire standard American English real soon, the sooner the better.
Dawei: Even the Americans like me doesn’t speak standard American English. Why are you so determined to speak standard American English? I think as long as people can understand what you are saying, then that’s good enough.
Qin Feng: But…
Dawei: No “buts” about it. Your English is both fluent and pleasant to hear. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
